Today’s guest blogger, Brooks Lucas, Foundry and Facilities Manager at Cadillac Casting, on the joys of running in Cadillac. Last year he trained for and completed an Ironman Triathlon.
We are fortunate to have two lakes in Cadillac, and one of them, Lake Cadillac, has a 7-mile running path all the way around it. One of the most memorable runs was the one I did yesterday. I ran two laps around Lake Cadillac for 14 miles. For some that may sound boring; however, it was one of the most beautiful days to run – calm winds and the first weekend long run that the ice was finally off the lake. I often run with a group and we typically get up and at ‘em pretty early. In fact, the first lap around the lake was in the dark as we start at 6 a.m. During the run, we were able to view the sunrise from the M-115 corridor near the Frosty Cup Restaurant, where we could listen to the seagulls making noise, smell the lake, and watch the sunrise as it reflected off the lake – an amazing sight! This group I run with has become very good friends and since we run throughout the winter months in sub-zero temperatures, the fact that the temperature yesterday morning was in the low 30s when we started, felt amazingly warm. With no wind and nothing but sun in the sky, the run was very enjoyable. We always joke that those super cold days in the deep, dark February mornings make us grateful for the warm days to come; it’s absolutely true! Today is a new day. I’m headed out for a much needed bike ride to Boon and back; one of the best rides around! Cruising down Boon Road in the springtime in warm weather is awesome! The view is great and so is the ride. Happy training and get outside and enjoy it!
